Biome of the week – Flower Forest

Today’s featured biome is the Flower Forest a refreshing addition to Minecraft since June 2009, with the Forest being added a year later on. However, it wasn’t until on October 2013 when an update that changed the Minecraft World which made the two biomes synonymous. Hence, the Flower Forest was born

You’ll know right away if you’re venturing in a Flower Forest since it’s less dense than a regular forest and there’s a noticeably higher number of flowers all over the place. Large oaks are more common in this biome as well due to the higher fertility of the soil.

Another notable trait of the Flower Forest is that almost every kind of flower in existence can be found here, making a great spot to collect materials for your garden projects or dyes. The only types of flowers that can’t be found in this biome are Sunflowers since they’re found in plains, Blue Orchids as they’re found in swamps and Wither Roses which are only spawned when a Wither kills a mob.

The Flower Forests also make a decent location to set up a home or hideout. They’re safe, there’s an abundance of building materials, the scenery is amazing and offers beautiful views, livestock such as sheep, pigs, chicken, cows and rabbits are common for food source and bees including beehives are also found among the trees.

However, you still need to be wary when sun sets as the usual threat during nightfall are still present – spiders, zombies, skeletons and creepers with the occasional Enderman and witch prowl the night. Simply building fences around your properties with decent lighting should keep these creatures of the night at bay.

In the real world, there are many wildflowers that grow in woodland areas. Depending on the season, you might find bluebells, blueberries, blue cornflowers, and plenty of other flowers that aren’t blue. In fact, woodland tends to be home to some of the rarest flowering plants, because they’re harder to spot amongst the foliage.

So here’s a challenge for you and your friends. Locate your nearest flower forest in Minecraft, and race to see who can be the first to collect one of every type of flower. The fastest wins. Ready….? GO!
